NEOS Server 4.0 Administrative Guide
نویسنده
چکیده
The NEOS Server 4.0 provides a general Internet-based client/server as a link between users and software applications. The administrative guide covers the fundamental principles behind the operation of the NEOS Server, installation and trouble-shooting of the Server software, and implementation details of potential interest to a NEOS Server administrator. The guide also discusses making new software applications available through the Server, including areas of concern to remote solver administrators such as maintaining security, providing usage instructions, and enforcing reasonable restrictions on jobs. The administrative guide is intended both as an introduction to the NEOS Server and as a reference for use when running the Server. ∗This work was supported by the Mathematical, Information, and Computational Sciences Division subprogram of the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing, U.S. Department of Energy, under Contract W-31-109-Eng-38, and by the National Science Foundation (Challenges in Computational Science) grant CDA-9726385 and (Information Technology Research) grant CCR-0082807. †Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences Department, Northwestern University, and Mathematics and Computer Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL 60439; e-mail: [email protected]

Optimization on the NEOS Server
The NEOS Server for Optimization was unveiled in 1995 as one result of an effort to develop computational servers and collaborative technologies. Today, the NEOS Server (www-neos.mcs.anl.gov) is a multi-institutional research effort providing access to more than fifty academic and commercial optimization packages through an assortment of Internet interfaces. More than seventy thousand job reque...
متن کاملOptimization of a fed-batch fermentation process control competition problem using the NEOS server
An optimal control solution to a fed-batch fermentation process, responding to a competition call, was developed using the NEOS (network enabled optimization solution) server (http://www-neos.mcs.anl.gov/neos/). Substantial improvement to the nominal performance achieved in the paper demonstrates the ability of the NEOS server and the asynchronous parallel pattern search algorithm.
متن کاملSolving Tough Optimal Control Problems by Network Enabled Optimization Server (NEOS)
The Network Enabled Optimization Server (NEOS) for solving tough optimal control problems (OCPs) is introduced. Though NEOS is generally used to solve static optimization problems, in solving dynamic optimizations (OCPs) in a general form, we show that the NEOS Server has some advantages over the existing dedicated optimal control software packages. After a step by step introduction of how to s...
متن کاملKestrel: An Interface from Optimization Modeling Systems to the NEOS Server
The NEOS Server provides access to a variety of optimization resources via the Internet. The new Kestrel interface to the Server enables local modeling environments to request NEOS optimization services and retrieve the results for local visualization and analysis, so that users have the same convenient access to remote NEOS solvers as to those installed locally. Kestrel agents have been implem...
متن کاملKestrel: An Interface from Modeling Systems to the NEOS Server
The NEOS Server provides access via the Internet to a broad variety of optimization software packages. Kestrel, a new interface to the NEOS Server, extends the Server’s usefulness by permitting local programs rather than human modelers to request optimization services and retrieve results. As a result, a locally running modeling system can have much the same access to remote NEOS solvers as to ...
